As a blogger, I frequently receive beauty products and makeup from manufacturers to test out, giving me an opportunity to get a sense of what the trends are in the industry. Some work and some don't, as beauty products are very personal.

More often than not, the products I receive are a variation on a theme: the latest shampoo and conditioners, mascaras, eye shadows, face masks, hair masks, nail polish, the list goes on and on.

What I rarely receive are personal care products that help solve a specific issue I may have. So when they do come my way, you can imagine I'd get pretty excited.

La Roche-Posay's Lipikar Stick AP+

In this case, it was La Roche-Posay, my favourite brand of suncare, who reached out to me recently. Their sunscreen, aftersun and general skincare line has been rated highly by dermatologists and beauty editors across the globe.

This time, however, they weren’t approaching me with new suncare products. Instead, it was for a new product that was being added to their existing eczema care line.

In 2015, La Roche-Posay launched Lipikar Baume AP+, a balm that not only moisturizes and soothes the skin but also rebalances the skin microbiome (all the bacteria on the surface of your skin) to treat eczema. In 2016, the brand launched Lipikar Syndet AP+, a cleanser to use with the balm to again soothe eczema and rebalance the skin microbiome.

This year, the brand is adding a new member to the family, Lipikar Stick AP+. I don’t know about you, but when my eczema flares up - and you never know when it does - it’s difficult not to scratch. The Lipikar Stick AP+ is packaged in a convenient size, similar to underarm deodorant, so that it’s easy to hold and apply.

A New Eczema Treatment for Me

I was originally going to use the stick on my son, as Markus’ hands often get very inflamed over the winter, especially at night after a full day of hand washing. Strangely enough, however, his hands have been fine recently but my eczema had started to flare up just prior to the Lipikar Stick AP+ arriving at my doorstep. So we had a reason to use it after all.

I’ve only been using it for about three weeks but it’s doing what it claims - calming my skin and preventing that desire to scratch. This effect, combined with the action of other ingredients in the product (like niacinamide), means less irritation and less inflammation. Its convenient size allows me to pop it in my purse to use anywhere.

If you have eczema, you may want to consider trying this out. While using the right products to wash and moisturize the skin is always necessary, it’s nice to know La Roche-Posay has also thought of the in-between washing periods when your skin still requires soothing.
