WELCOME!
Welcome to my website! The idea to start The Vancouverite emerged when I was in Paris, of all places. My day job as a communications executive had me spending much of my time in France anyway; and Keith, the love of my life, was also living and working there. I was already going to the shows at Paris Fashion Week for several seasons when a local friend had encouraged me to start a blog on my experiences sitting next to the runway, from a Vancouverite’s perspective. Back then, in the late 2000s, it was still fairly rare for someone - anyone really (let alone someone from Vancouver) - with that immediate access to the latest designs and comings and goings of the fashion elite. I hadn’t considered my good fortune. So despite my reluctance (since my day job already included enough writing), I finally started my website in the Fall of 2014. Since then, the website has evolved to cover my larger passions of travel, food and wine. My approach is to share experiences with you across those topics that I love - from anywhere around the world that I discover it. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration across these pages so that it adds some light to your every day.
ABOUT THE VANCOUVERITE
Cindy Yu is the author behind ‘The Vancouverite,’ a website that provides inspiration across the areas of travel and design, food and wine. It is also the home of ‘Cocktails in the Jungle’: a new series inspiring at-home enthusiasts to create their own cocktails in their kitchen.
While Cindy’s perspective on the world is tinted with the lens of a life-long Vancouverite, her extensive travels and many years as a communications executive in the corporate world help bring a richness to her writing.
What started as a hobby in 2014, covering the runway collections at Paris Fashion Week, quickly blossomed into a digital destination that now covers Cindy’s passion and love for travel and design, food and wine. She is equally happy exploring new recipes in her kitchen as she is getting lost in a bookstore in Berlin. Her curious nature and love for storytelling often has her spending lots of time exploring the backroads of a new town and talking to the locals, camera in hand. Her passion for absorbing the personal stories and cultures of those she meets also help to shape her perspective on life, and is reflected in her writing. While she still maintains her day job in the corporate world, The Vancouverite remains her creative jewel that is carefully curated and cultivated.
Cindy has worked with some of the largest lifestyle brands in the world - across the areas of fashion and beauty, travel and hospitality. Her relatable, authentic approach to everything she does - especially storytelling - has helped to not only secure these projects but to also build ongoing and lifelong partnerships.
The name of the website reflects Cindy’s absolute love for her hometown of Vancouver, Canada: a stunning city of rugged, majestic mountains flanked by an emerald ocean. It doesn’t matter where she travels in the world, she will always be a Vancouverite, first and foremost.
Cindy lives in Vancouver with her partner, Keith, her two sons Nathan and Markus and their dog, Kona.
