Ready to Wear Fall 2015 - Recap: Andrew Gn
Singapore-born and Paris-based Andrew Gn is known for luxurious fabrics and exquisite handwork that has earned him a cult celebrity and socialite following. The detail work is developed all in house, from embellishments to embroideries and buttons.
Born the youngest of three brothers and two sisters, Andrew Gn studied fashion design in London and Milan. Upon graduation, he moved to Paris to assist Emanuel Ungaro. He broke out with his own line only four years later and began a collection leveraging his knowledge of East and West cultures that strongly influence his designs. Fine attention to detail and craftsmanship plus expert knowledge of tailoring have given him a strong advantage in becoming one of the more significant current designers of the last decade.
Andrew Gn's FW2015 collection debuting in Paris played upon his signature application of plush fabrics, vibrant colours and exquisite detailing that makes him more of an haute couturier than someone who reigns in the ready-to-wear category. His show opener of a stone-hued flannel cape accented with a knotted fringe trim and a luxe fur collar gave hints of what was to come in subsequent looks that echoed the same details. In terms of color palette, many of the pieces were primarily black but transitioned to vivid jewel tones as the collection continued on. Fins and wings floated off the shoulders of many models as they floated down the runway gleaming in light from glorious beading detail. Again, more of a couture expert with such extravagant yet expert application.
