Scanning for Balance
I recently participated in a biometric health scan to get a quick snapshot of the current state of my physical health. This health scan was provided as a benefit by my employer and I am definitely thankful for it. The scan not only gave me an indication of how my body was doing but more importantly things I should focus on to improve my overall physical well-being.
The biometric scan was comprised of several quick elements. The blood pressure reading, weight measurement, height measurement, waist measurement and lastly a prick of your finger for a drop of blood to measure a number of different things like cholesterol level. I learned that my cholesterol levels were elevated - but it was the ‘good cholesterol’. Thank God for those regular avocado toasts that I make at home! I have also significantly reduced my sugar intake in the past year. I don’t take any sugar with my coffee and I avoid sweets in general. Fruit is generally the only way I’d consume (natural) sugar.
While my results indicated that I was relatively healthy, it did reinforce a greater need for exercise. I could - and should - be doing more on a regular basis and I know it. I could also be doing more to reduce my stress levels; especially lately as I’ve barely had time to myself. I used to be able to meditate more regularly and I can’t remember the last time I was able to do that. It really helps you put things into perspective - and to prioritize what’s really important to you.
Do you feel that there’s anything you can do to improve your health and well being?
