Haute Couture Spring 2015 - Recap: Elie Saab
ELIE SAAB
Ever since Halle Berry donned his stunning burgundy gown at the 2002 Academy Awards where she won Best Actress, Elie Saab's meteoric rise has made him one of the most sought after designers by Hollywood and international celebrities. This self-trained designer from Beirut began sewing as a child, making patterns out of newspapers. It should come as no surprise that his entrepreneurial spirit pushed him to launch his own label in 1982 at the age of 18, first making bridal gowns for the wealthy in Lebanon. Since his first couture collection in 2003, Elie Saab has built a reputation for collections that fuse western and eastern cultures. More importantly, Saab has impeccable taste and a deep understanding of the female form. Some designers create couture to satisfy an internal desire to prove something to the world, while others like Saab create couture to make a woman feel her most beautiful self. Every one of his designs offer a flattering silhouette, applied with multiple layers of feathers, crystals, embellishments on silk and tulle. From jumpsuits to coats to evening gowns, Saab's command of couture cannot be outmatched.
